This position is limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs (SCEP), and in coordination with the Career Technical Education (CTE) headquarters unit, the Supervisor of Vocational Instruction (SVI) will be responsible for every aspect of supporting and evaluating CTE programs. Supporting and evaluating CTE programs includes, but is not limited to, developing program quality standards for program evaluation, communicating program quality standards to staff and supervisors, regularly reporting program quality formative and summative data, coaching teachers on effective instructional strategies, interpreting educational policy, and developing well-informed policy recommendations.

Working Conditions

About this location -- Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is located in the foothills near Jamestown, California, in the heart of the Mother Lode Gold Country.It is adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest, offering pine trees, mountain streams, and an abundance of recreational activities (fishing, swimming, camping, skiing, golfing, etc.).The prison is approximately 70 miles from Yosemite National Park.

The primary mission of SCC is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers 31 male camps located throughout California.

Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws (court mandates, Special Education Law, labor relations agreements, etc. to govern the operation of adult education and/or juvenile justice school programs. Record keeping in order to maintain accurate records and to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws, rules and regulations and court mandates and accountability of education programs, etc. Safety and security measures required at correctional facilities in order to maintain a safe work environment. How to plan and implement staff development for professional growth. Procedures in order to train, correct, and direct staff in meeting job expectations. School accreditation and program review processes to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, rules and regulations governing education. Administering educational tests to determine student placement and/or achievement, etc. Research principles and techniques in order to research a wide variety of resources/data, etc. Current instructional B leadership practices.

Ability to: Utilize current technology in order to enhance communication and maximize personal effectiveness. Effectively coach, mentor and/or collaborate with faculty in integrating technologies into the classroom. Communicate effectively with faculty and staff in written and verbal correspondence and to maintain professional nonverbal communication during personal interactions. Create and/or maintain a professional learning community focused on teaching and learning.
